Types of Memory Cards
There are many types of memory cards out there, including the Memory Stick, the Memory Stick Duo, the Memory Stick Micro, the Multi Media Card, the SD Memory Card, the Mini SD Memory Card, the Micro SD Memory Card, to name a few. I have used most of these, but I am going to share my experiences with the SD type Memory Cards. All do pretty much the same thing, but some are company specific. One good thing is that to buy SD Memory Cards is easy now because they are sold in a large variety of stores, from electronics to pharmacy to grocery and more. Generally, printers and some other electronics have a bank of memory card slots that will allow you to use most types of memory cards.
What are SD Memory Cards
The Secure Digital Memory Card is very common. The usage of this card ranges to all types of electronics including, but not limited to, printers, cameras, cell phones, game consoles, camcorders, and many more electronic devices. These little inventions have made a maximum of storage in a very little place. The first one I had was for a camera, and had very little memory, but as technology has improved, the little guys can store a lot of information, pictures, movies, music, etc.
Mini SD Memory Cards
Technology moved on to the second phase with the Mini SD Memory Card, an upgrade to the SD Card. This card was to be mainly used in smaller electronic items.
Micro SD Memory Cards
Micro SD Cards were another phase of the SD Cards. This item to me was a great creation. The Micro Secure Digital Card can be used in devices that have smaller memory slots such as camera memory slots, or cell phone memory slots. The great thing about these cards is that it comes with an adapter which will allow it to become the size of the regular SD Card. This enables you to insert it into your printer and other devices to download, print or otherwise use the information on the card. There is also a flash module that you can insert the adapter into and connect directly to your computer’s USB Port to download or upload information, pictures, etc.
SDHC Memory Cards
This is the latest SD type to come out with High-Capacity. Technology improves the cards even more, ranging now to a 64 GB card with upgraded features.

SD Memory Card Sizes
As these cards have improved, so has the available memory. Starting from somewhere around 16 MB, the cards have now grown to 64 GB of memory. The approximate songs, pictures, and movies that will fit onto an 8 GB SDHC card are songs—2000, video—15 hours, pictures—4000. Now the size of the pictures, videos, and songs will affect this number, but you get the idea.
What do they Cost?
As a comparison, 2 GB card will cost from $5 to $10, a 64 GB card will cost about $70, and in between are 4GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB. Be sure to not buy based on cost, but think of what you will be using them for. Check it out, and see that you will be able to save a lot more pictures, videos, etc. for just a little bit more of an investment.
